Analytics
We do run the Plausible Analytics script to collect some anonymous data for statistical purposes. Our goal here is to get an overall trend of our traffic, not to track any individual visitors. To do so, Plausible collects only aggregated data, no personal or identifiable data is stored or collected.
To achieve this, the following information are collected:
Data point | Example | Detail |
---|---|---|
Page URL | https://userctl.xyz/about/ | We track the page URL of each page view on this website. We use this to understand which pages have been viewed and how many times a particular page has been viewed. |
HTTP Referrer | https://github.com/ | We use the referrer string to understand the number of visitors referred to this website from links on other sites. |
Browser | Firefox 89.0 | We use this to understand what browsers people use when visiting this website. This is derived from the User-Agent HTTP header. The full User-Agent is discarded. |
Operating system | Windows 10 | We use this to understand what operating systems people use when visiting this website. We only use the brand of the operating system and major version number. This is derived from the User-Agent HTTP header. The full User-Agent is discarded. |
Device type | Desktop | We use this to understand what devices people use when visiting this website. This is derived from window.innerWidth . The actual width of the browser in pixels is discarded. |
Visitor Country | Germany | We look up the visitor’s country using the IP address. We do not track anything more granular than the country of origin and the IP address of the visitor is discarded and never stored. |
We decided to use Plausible as our analytics tool as it is completely open-source, do not use any cookies and respects our visitors’ privacy. The service is also extremely transparent about the way it collected and stores data. If you wish to better understand how Plausible works, you can read more about it in the Plausible Analytics Data Policy.
For complete transparency, we also decided to make public the information collected by Plausible here.
